The Trump Corp. was convicted of nine charges and the Trump Payroll Corp. was convicted of eight charges in their 15-year campaign of criminal activity to defraud the government and US taxpayers. Long-time CFO Allen Weisselberg testified against the organization as part of his plea deal with prosecutors. Judge Juan Merchan said that if he had not already promised Weisselberg a 5-month sentence, he would have issued a much greater sentence after hearing the evidence during the trial.
One such scheme should infuriate every US taxpayer who diligently works, contributes to Social Security, and expects to actually recoup their hard-earned money in retirement. Weisselberg issued a $6,000 payroll check to his non-working wife so that she would become eligible for Social Security benefits. He issued unearned money, and the net effect is that we, US taxpayers, are on the hook for paying his wife’s retirement income as a result. If that doesn’t rustle your jimmies.
Weisselberg stated that he conspired with others at the company and described conversations he had with Don Sr., Don Jr, and Eric, but when questioned by the jury, he walked back those statements and said that he didn’t scheme with anyone in the Trump family. The DA stated that this was a sanctioned and known practice to the Hamberder-in-Chief himself.
“The whole narrative that Donald Trump was blissfully ignorant is just not real.”
Prosecutor Joshua Steinglass
Weisselberg and company controller Jeffery McConney described various methods used by the Trump Organization to avoid taxes and payroll liability on bonuses and luxury benefits. McConney acknowledged a second set of books that documented these tax-saving changes. They also described a clean-up effort introduced when Trump became President to purge the organization of these fraudulent actions. Nothing screams guilt like a good cover-up.
Anyone care to guess Donald’s response to the conviction?
“Manhattan witch hunt.”
Donald Trump
