David Wheeler, president of the American Muckrakers Political Action Committee, sued Lauren Boebert for defamation, alleging she lied about him and his nonprofit to the press in response to his allegations about her personal life.

Wheeler began this spat, reporting that Boebert served as a paid escort, has had two abortions, and is a former meth-head. There is SOOOO MUCH MORE to Wheeler’s report, check out more details in this post. Boebert’s response was vehement denial, threats of lawsuits, and the conservative publicity tour.

During the tour is where Boebert is alleged to have made the defamatory statements, which Wheeler is now claiming hurt his reputation and his PAC’s ability to raise funding.

“Defendant Boebert admitted during that broadcast that her motive was to thwart Plaintiffs’ first amendment rights to public participation in matters of public concern, stating, ‘We’re going to make sure this political hack never has the opportunity to do this to anyone else again.'”

From Wheeler’s lawsuit

The interesting part of this story is that Boebert hasn’t followed through with her threats of legal action against Wheeler. Given her office, one would assume this would be a piece-of-cake lawsuit to get filed, but she hasn’t. Wheeler made materially damaging allegations. She’s made denials on Twitter, to the press, on the news; but faced with the prospect of being under oath to follow through, there are suddenly crickets.

If the allegations are untrue, her case against him is solid. Why wouldn’t you sue to clear your name? If she really wants to stop him from doing this to someone else (as she claims), why wouldn’t she sue him? Unless the allegations are true. Or discovery would be too revealing.

I feel bad for Boebert. She’s not a smart woman, but she’s serving a purpose for the GOP. She’s a sure vote and she’ll parrot any talking point or scheme in the GOP playbook. She’s a useful idiot to the GOP. And her early life doesn’t sound like it was easy.

She’s recently filed for divorce from her husband of close to 20 years. Whom she met when she was 16 and he was 22. Who was arrested for exposing himself to a group of teenage girls when they first started dating. Whom she had arrested a month later for domestic abuse. Whom she married at 17 and dropped out of high school to raise a family with.

Yeah, I feel bad for her. That’s not your story at age 16-17 unless there’s other trauma. On the other hand:

  • In May 2004, she was charged with third degree assault, criminal mischief, and underage drinking.
  • In September 2010, she was arrested when her two pit bulls attacked a neighbor’s dog.
  • In June 2015, she was arrested for disorderly conduct, then missed two court appearances, and was arrested again in December 2015.
  • In September 2016, she was charged with careless driving and operating an unsafe vehicle. She again failed to show up for court and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

This is from the “back the blue” “law and order” party. And that doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of the recent domestic and neighbor issues or the subject of the lawsuit above! Oh lordy, Colorado, what have you done?
